BB

Senior Section

Recommences Monday 16th September 2019. A parent or guardian for each boy must come into the hall to sign Consent forms on the opening night.

Senior BB is on a Monday night in the Samuel Boyd Hall meeting at 7:15pm – 9:00pm. It is for those boys in 1st year of High School and upwards.

The main aim of the Boys Brigade is:

‘The advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that lends towards a true Christian manliness.’

Every week BB is opened with a short devotional time and prayer. The boys then split into groups. Depending on numbers some do their Bible work, some take part in games/sport and others are involved in crafts/cooking. These groups then rotate. The boys gather together for the final part of the evening to hear announcements and close in prayer.

The BB also participates in Down Battalion competitions such as football, table tennis and other sports. Throughout the year there are also outings to Newry for Ten pin bowling, cinema and the occasional rugby/football match.

Junior Section

Recommences Wednesday 18th September 2019. A parent or guardian for each boy must come into the hall to sign Consent forms on the opening night.

The Junior Section is for boys in classes P5 – P7 in primary school. We meet each Wednesday night in the Samuel Boyd Hall from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. Our meetings are crammed full of challenges, games and activities, often ones that the boys themselves have suggested. At the same time we try to encourage them to explore other new interests. There is loads of variety and little chance of becoming bored!

We welcome any boy between the ages of 8 and 11 to come along and join us on Wednesday nights. They do not have to belong to the Church to attend BB.

The Officer in charge is Eddie Graham.

Anchor Boys

Recommences Monday 16th September 2019. A parent or guardian for each boy must come into the hall to sign Consent forms on the opening night.

This is the youngest section of the Boys’ Brigade.  It is for boys aged 5 – 8 years old.

We meet on Monday evenings from 5:45pm – 6:45pm in The Samuel Donaldson Hall. We wear a red sweatshirt with the BB crest on it, grey trousers and gym shoes.   We open with a hymn, a prayer and the teaching of a memory verse.

Then we separate into three colour coded teams each assigned to an officer.  There the boys get a roll point and marks for their uniforms and the bringing of their weekly ‘sub’ which goes towards paying for the school fees of their special friend, Suudi, in Uganda.

We have a varied programme from September to Easter of colouring in, games, crafts, duster hockey, singing, teamwork, community awareness, visits out, visitors in  and most importantly the teaching of  Bible stories

Our aim is to encourage all the boys to develop through participation, whether working alone or as part of a team, in a fun and action packed hour.  All boys work towards gaining achievement and promotional certificates.  We also take part in the Down Battalion Anchor Boy Church Service and competitions; i.e. indoor sports, duster hockey and outdoor sports day.

We, as officers, seek to show and tell the boys what God has done for us in our lives, trusting that in praying for them regularly God will speak into their young lives.  We teach the boys the Boys’ Brigade motto and its objective.

We would appreciate you upholding us each in prayer and pray for safety for the boys as we meet weekly.

In the interest of safety we would ask any parent or guardian to both bring the boys in and collect them from the officers.
